Cars that do not comply with the technical requirements for the event may have start refused or may be penalised up to exclusion at the discretion of the Clerk of the Course, unless a lesser penalty is specified in the regulations.Definitions
6.4 In these regulations the term 'car' will mean a unitary construction motor vehicle designed to carry four or more persons. The terms 'standard' and 'original' will mean conforming to the showroom specification of the actual model variant entered as it was produced and sold to the general public through the manufacturer's usual dealer outlets. The Organisers will have absolute discretion in identifying separate models and defining volume production.
Car Specification
6.5 All cars must conform to their vehicle registration document and the statutory vehicle regulations. Cars must be in completely standard condition except for the specified modifications detailed in these regulations for the Class in which the car is entered. All other modifications are prohibited and will be penalised up to exclusion from the event. All components and equipment, and every measurement and dimension must conform precisely to the manufacturer's published standard specification for the particular model variant entered. Entrants must supply the Organisers with any vehicle documentation as required.
Component Parts
6.6 Every part or component of the car must be a standard production item identifiable as the manufacturer's listed and numbered part, except where alternative components are specifically permitted by these Regulations. No standard part may be machined, lightened or polished unless specifically permitted within these regulations.
Safety Equipment
6.7 All cars must be equipped with:
- First aid kit, warning triangle and tow rope
- An AFFF fire extinguisher of at least 1.75 litres securely mounted in quick release brackets and within easy reach of both occupants inside the car. If a plumbed-in system is fitted, an additional hand-held AFFF extinguisher of at least 1.75 litres must be carried.
- Multi-point mounting, full-harness seat belts for all crew members.
- A roll cage with a minimum specification of a single hoop and two backstays (MSA Blue Book Q1 specification).
- Front windscreen of laminated glass.
- Mud flaps for all four wheels.
Bodyshell
6.8 Cars may not be lightened from the manufacturer's standard production weight. All bodywork panels must be of the material provided as standard by the car manufacturer. Strengthening of the bodyshell is permitted. De-mountable strut brace(s) may be fitted. Detachable sump guards, transmission and fuel tank protection plates may be fitted. Bonnet, door and rear door/hatch locks may be changed and additional catches fitted.
Interior
6.9 All major internal trim as fitted to the body type by its original manufacturer when offering it for sale must be retained, except for minor changes to allow the fitting of a roll cage and the items specified here. Retained trim will include headlinings, inside door panels, carpets and rear seats. Sound absorbing material may be removed. Front seats may be changed. Additional dashboard instruments, switches and controls may be fitted, providing the original components are retained. Interior accessories may be added to improve comfort, convenience or safety, provided they do not affect the performance of the car. The steering wheel may be changed and safety air bags may be disabled or removed. The glass areas of the car must not be rendered opaque except for the sunstrip area.
Engine & Transmission
6.10 No part of the engine may be machined, balanced, lightened, polished or otherwise modified in any way except that a service reground crankshaft and/or cylinder re-bore will be allowed. The engine capacity class limits may be exceeded by 2.5%. Any re-bore may not exceed 1.5mm (60thou). The position of the engine within the car, its height and distance from the wheel centres, must not be altered from standard. Filter elements and gasket materials are free. The throttle body and other induction system components must be standard except that the air intake trunking and routing may be changed provided no air is drawn from the passenger compartment. Dry-sump lubrication is not permitted. A strengthening plate may be attached to the base of the sump pan. The exhaust manifold must be standard, but the dimensions and routing of the exhaust system after the exit of the manifold may be modified provided any originally fitted catalytic converter is retained. Noise levels must comply with the MSA noise limits for road rallies summarised as a maximum of 74dba at 2/3max rpm at 8.0m distance. Additional straps and brackets may be fitted to the exhaust system. Engine and gearbox mountings must be the original part, but they may be capped and strengthened. All component parts of the gearbox and transmission must be standard and unmodified except the clutch friction material is unrestricted. The fitting of a limited-slip differential is strictly prohibited unless standard for the model variant entered.
Ignition & Electrical System
6.11 The wiring loom and ignition and engine management system may be modified. The battery may be changed and its mountings strengthened but its position must be standard. The headlights and auxiliary lights shall remain as fitted by the manufacturers. Cars fitted as standard with two headlights may add two auxiliary lights. Anti-lock braking systems may be removed or disabled. Hydraulic brake lines may be changed without restriction and stone protection added provided it fulfils no other function. The brake fluid may be changed. All other brake components must be standard.
Suspension & Steering
6.15 The suspension shall remain the same as that fitted by the manufacturer. The shock absorbers may be of any make and may be uprated from standard. The mounting method and position shall remain as specified by the manufacturer. It is prohibited to fit telescopic instead of lever arm shock absorbers and vice versa. Springs are free but must retain their original location. Bushes may be changed for similar polymer materials but rose-joints or similar metal joints are prohibited. Power assisted steering system may be removed. Steering and track control arms may be changed or strengthened provided the operating dimensions remain as standard. Wishbone pans may be strengthened but the operating dimensions must remain as original. The geometry of the suspension must not be altered.
Wheels & Tyres
6.16 The choice of road wheel is free provided that the wheel-tyre combination fits within the standard unmodified wheel arch. The mandatory tyre for the event is the Colway Road Plus tyre range except in the event that there is no suitable tyre from this range for your vehicle. Where there is no suitable Colway Road Plus tyre available any standard volume production, non-remould tyre is permitted under the following conditions. All types of 'Grip', 'Town & Country', 'M&S', 'All Season' or special motorsport tyres are prohibited. Subsequent hand cutting is prohibited. Any competitor not using Colway Road Plus tyres must declare their intention and have the alternative tyre agreed by the Organisers, in writing, before their entry may be accepted.
