  Revival Rally Information and Route

The REVIVAL RALLY - Reviving the Spirit of the RAC Rally - offers the clubman the opportunity of a true test of stamina and endurance in the style many thought had been consigned to the history books.

Information packs and entry forms are now available from the Rally Office. Call us now to get on the mailing list.

The route starts from York on November 25th 2004. Day one drives via Scarborough for Oliver's Mount, and rests at Carlisle after the first leg with the likes of Dalby, Stang and Keilder at midnight once more echoing to the sound of rally cars taking in England, Scotland and Wales.... the second leg via Chester takes in more forest sections made famous by RAC rallies, and the third leg is a full day's drive from the cliff-hugging Great Orme jutting into the Irish Sea down through the classic lanes and tight road-sections that made Welsh Rallying great, with strictly-timed sections taking you to such icons as Sweet Lamb, Walters Arena, Epynt and Caerwent.
We are considering an approach from Cheltenham BC to stage the finish in Cheltenham - including an offer of a closed-street test in the centre of town. Cheltenham enjoyed strong links with the original RAC Rallies – York to Cheltenham.... that’s certainly sounding like a real Revival!

The Route is organised by Fred Bent of the Morecambe Car Club for first two "Great Northern" legs, and the final day is organised by Hywel Thomas of the Amman and District Car Club, who organised Britain's first ever Endurance Rally to the new MSA regulations for 1400cc cars last July. A team with an established infrastructure, and already proven abilities, has now come together to make a highly traditional and very authentic RAC Rally come alive once more.

Bob Redhead is the Chief Marshal and has the task of finding more than 1,000 marshals to transform the new concept into a resounding success.

The Cars: Keeping costs down is a priority that will gladden the hearts of every enthusiast, while, at the same time, caps on performance actually enhance the driver's challenge - and help create an almost level playing field. Nobody will have a vastly thicker cheque-book to buy success.... nobody will have tons more horsepower than you and nobody will have better tyres, or endless supplies to hand.

Everything about the Revival Rally is aimed at providing a tough, hard, challenge, driving around Britain, through the day and through the night, over and over again....for three long days, in the authentic RAC manner. But for once, the driver of a small car is not automatically consigned to the back of the field - he will be out in front, doing the winning, as no car will be more than 1400cc.

There are classes for one litre cars, 1300cc cars, and 1400cc cars, with a non-turbo diesel class up to 1900cc.

...Something unique and rather special is now on the starting blocks. The nature of the MSA's all-new regulations means that clubs can obtain forests and off-road sections at vastly less expense than the traditional stage rally, and the Organisers have taken full advantage of this opportunity. Only these regulations, specific to these cars, restores the prospect for something like a truly ambitious RAC Rally-style route - which can now be organised within sensible budgets. And be sure to note, although there may be an historical ring to all this - modern cars rallying the way they used to - there are NO regularity tests, and NO reversing.

This is a rally organised for the enthusiast - by the enthusiast, and is unlike anything else on offer.

More soon....
