Pictured above is Tony Gardiner's superb evocation of Prince Scipio Borghese in the Itala leading the world's first motor rally.

Below is a shot of Borghese himself with, on his left, Luigi Barzini, the Italian journalist, whose evocative reports from the winning car did so much to establish the worldwide fame of the event, establishing it as one of the greatest adventures of the century.

The final shot shows the winning Itala in China, with much of the bodywork and luggage removed to enable it to be hauled through paddy fields which were preventing progress.
