The Greatest Motoring Adventure – Peking to Paris 2022

The Peking to Paris Motor Challenge is unique in the motoring world – a true endurance motor rally following in the wheel-tracks of the original pioneers of 1907. Driving an old car nearly halfway around the world with a bunch of like-minded enthusiasts, against the clock, with the added spice of timed sections, makes Peking to Paris the longest and toughest driving challenge for Vintage and Classic cars.

In consideration of the current global situation, the new deadline for submission of applications to enter the event has been extend until Friday 10 April 2020.

Although we have received a sufficient number of applications to allow us to start the selection process, we would like to give all interest parties a little more time to send their application.

Should you have any questions or concerns you would like to discuss with us, or should you be unable to send your application within the new deadline, please don’t hesitate to write to us by email to [email protected]

Who can participate?

The event route is challenging, and for this reason, we welcome only experienced crews and crews who are prepared to compete in other ERA events prior to tackling the Peking to Paris. You will need a sense of adventure and be prepared to spend nights under canvas in the deserts of Mongolia and Kazakhstan. The ability to carry out regular maintenance on your own car is essential. Average daily distances are around 400 kilometres but, on occasion, they can be as much as 650 kilometres – it is an endurance event after all.

There will be three main categories:

A – Pioneer up to December 1920
B – Vintage & Vintageant from January 1921 up to December 1947
C – Classic from January 1948 to December 1975
Some categories may be subdivided into classes based on engine size

Peking to Paris 2022 – What you need to know

Is my vehicle Eligible?

The event is open for Vintageant cars built before 1948 and for Classic cars of a type built before 1976. Classes based on engine size will subdivide these categories.

Can anyone enter?

The event route is challenging, and for this reason we welcome only experienced crews and crews who are prepared to compete in other ERA events prior to tackling the Peking to Paris.

What if my car Breaks down?

We expect you to carry spares for your car and a tool kit. You should be able to take care of minor repairs yourself, but our mobile support vehicles will follow the rally and our highly skilled mechanics will provide all the extra support you need.

The vast experience of our sweeps will keep you on the road; just make sure you bring the right spares for your car.

Car Shipping

You may use any shipping agent you chose, but we recommend CARS Europe who have handled our shipping for nearly 20 years. CARS can efficiently transport your car to the rally start and then back home; they handle all customs and import operations so your car will be ready for collection in a specified location in Beijing. You can contact Melvyn Palmer [email protected] for a free quotation.

Do I Require A Carnet De Passage?

At the time of printing this Guide, there is no need for a Carnet to enter the countries visited by the rally. Any requirements on this regard will need to be confirmed by the participants with the shipper of their car, closer to the date.

Do I Need Fiva Papers For My Car?

Yes. The event will run under the FIVA Events Code and entrants will be required to apply for a FIVA ID Card.

Vehicle Insurance

Vehicle insurance is not included so you will need to make your own arrangements. For your motor insurance requirements one of our partners Hero Insurance Solutions will be able to assist in providing compulsory third-party motor cover and vehicle physical damage cover. Please email

[email protected] or please contact Andrew Scannell on +44 (0)203 178 3327

Travel and Medical Cover

A fully qualified medical team will follow the Rally from start to the finish. The medical team will also support your preparation with a list of medications you should bring and a comprehensive first aid kit can be purchased in advance from the Rally Doctors.

We request that all participants arrange personal travel insurance including medical emergency repatriation.
